This book really made me want to go back and read that one. She's trying to figure herself out, but she expects consistency and enlightened awareness from everyone else. The parts where she is reflecting on herself and/or allowing herself to be moved by her experiences, I found to be incredibly moving and thought-provoking. I, too, grew up in a closed religious community - the horse and buggy Old Order Mennonites in Pa.. It was a fascinating story. I didn’t sense honest wrestling, just hipster angst. For this book, the answer to both questions was negative.This was a little uneven. In thinking of how to review this book, I was concerned that there would be a *chance* Deborah could read it. Please try again Her writing is What a huge talent - can't wait to read more from her! What a disappointment.

That didn't bother me. Then it kind of jumped up to hyperspeed, got vague and just kind of ended. So - who am I to say it is real or not. On-line books store on Z-Library | B–OK. But it is informative, and reasonably well-written, though I found myself increasingly not caring much for Feldman as it went on.

I read the author’s first book which describes her early years in a strict religious sect and her eventual exit from it. ;) Our "Holocaust Bible" was the Martyr's Mirror - a large leather bound book filled with the most horrible accounts, including photos, of my ancestors the Anabaptists, being tortured and killed for their Christian beliefs.

I was hoping that some issues would be explored in greater depth, or we would at least see how Ms. Feldman was able to establish her lifI read this right after reading Feldman's previous memoir, Unorthodox because I was eager to see if some of the questions left unanswered in that book were answered in this one. This one was more about her travels as she tried to find an identity for herself. In 2010, she departed with her son, leaving her husband and cutting all ties with the Hasidic community.Despite her differences with the Hasidic community, Feldman has said: "I am proud of being Jewish, because I think that's where my indomitable spirit comes from.

Did not come away enlightened or better for the read - although I think Ms. Feldman comes away both from her experience of writing this down. I think her gifts in telling her story, and writing makes her work the most important of any I have read in my lifetime. I think Ms. Feldman is a sensitive, poetic writer and has done an enormous amount of difficult self discovery. Then they get a book deal for another one and just don't have much to say or haven't figured out how to say it yet. Great writing (which reflects deep thinking) is an end in itself — whether memoir or poetry or fiction. We've got you covered with the buzziest new releases of the day. I didn't find Exodus quite as interesting as I remember Feldman's first memoir, Unorthodox. 3 mass deportations. The book takes place after her first memoir, Unorthodox, which I have not read. $17.00. Because no Exodus, no journey of personal self-transformation, is complete in a single step.
