Other guests were really serious birders to had really early trips out to the towers and a real bird expert to guide. Overall it was an exceptional vacation experience.We have never spent so much at a hotel before. The kitchen facilities are also basic but good fun improvising with what you can find in the local "supermarket". Breakfasts, lunches and evening meals were in their small open air restaurant area with a stunning view, and were delicious and varied with very fresh local ingredients such as freshly caught fish. Beside that, Drake Bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Highlight - watching a tarantula on the eaves outside while showering. All felt more luxurious but none came close to the experience that we had at Rio Drake Farm.

Edu, Sabrina and their lovely two children Liana and Julia tried their best to let us feel comfortable and to let us enjoy our stay and we really did. Lodge Manager, Francois, deserves an honorable mention for running a very tight ship. They spotted things we'd never see, patiently identified anything and everything, clearly had a love for their work and were, hands down, absolutely fantastic. Guides are really knowledgeable and often excursions can be personalized. We were met in Quito airport with our boarding passes, we travelled with our guide, Ana, who was returning from her break. Both trips are highly recommended- the boat trips to both places are lovely and one day we saw a pod of dolphins on the way. We enjoyed getting to know our neighbours at the cabins, sitting out in the evenings in the communal areas with other people from around the world made the experience even better! Oil development is rapidly approaching Sacha - a major terminal is only about 15 minute upriver - and I can only imagine this will have a negative impact on the wildlife and overall experience in the future.
